Instructions and Information
Persons interested in submitting an Offer to Purchase real property from
Craven County are advised of the following:
To begin the process, a potential buyer must submit the County's standard
Offer to Purchase and Contract, which may not be modified or amended.  In addition,
a bid deposit payable to "Craven County" must be submitted with the Offer, for
an amount equal to the greater of $500 or 10% of the offer price.  Bid deposits
must be made in cash, certified check or money order - No personal or business
checks are accepted.  A bid deposit is NOT refundable unless the County does not
accept the Offer, or if a higher bid is ultimately received by the County;
however, a bid deposit IS a credit towards the purchase price.
Should the County elect to tentatively accept the offer, then the offer must be
published in the local paper for a 10 day upset bid period.  If there is an
upset bid, the public notice process is repeated until such time as there are
no further upset bids.  The final highest bid offer must be given final
approval by the County.
Note that a successful bidder will only receive a quitclaim deed from the County.
Prospective buyers should consider retaining an attorney for representation
and/or title services in advance of submitting an offer.
Craven County makes no representation or warranty as to the title of any
real property.
