The Craven County GIS web application allows users to view and query property and other information in the County.
The application only requires a few steps to display a map and information about a selected property or other feature.
The application consists of the "Main Map" in the lower left side of the page.
Just above the "Main Map" are the Map Tool Icons.
To the right of the "Main Map" is the area where different forms and search result information is displayed.

Map Tools :

The Map Tools are used to navigate the map by zooming in, zooming out, zooming to a specific scale,
zooming to the full extent of the County, moving the map in the desired direction and to select or identify a parcel or feature by clicking on it in the map.
The navigation buttons around the map edge indicated by arrows - "North", "South", "East" and "West" allow the user to move ("pan") the map in the desired direction. 

(Tip: Moving your mouse over a map icon tool will display a functional description about it).

ZOOM IN TOOL - Zooms into the selected area on the map.
By holding the mouse down and moving the mouse around and then releasing you can create a "rubber band" box to which the map will be refreshed.
ZOOM OUT TOOL - Zooms out from the area seen on the current map.
Clicking on the icon tool will perform this function. No interaction with the map is required.
ZOOM TO FULL EXTENT - Zooms to the full extent of Craven County.
ZOOM OPTIONS BUTTON - Displays the zoom options side bar on the right.
Use this side bar to zoom to a selected city or subdivision by clicking on the dropdown arrow.
Enter a portion of a 911 street or road name and the form will begin to give you 911 street or road names to select from.
Enter a map scale such as 100 and the map will zoom to a scale of 1 inch equals 100 feet.
PAN TOOL - Moves the map in the desired direction.
Hold the mouse down and move map to the desired location then release mouse button. The map will refresh to the new location.
ZOOM PREVIOUS - Zooms the map to your previous map extent if one exists.
PAN TOOL - Zooms the map to the next map extent.
SELECT PARCEL TOOL - Selects the parcel at the click location on the map.
Detailed information about the selected property is displayed on the right side of the page. The parcel is highlighted and shaded to indicate it is selected.
SELECT PARCEL(S) BY POINT TOOL - Selects the parcel(s) at the click location(s) on the map.
The Pid, Owner & Property Address is displayed on the right side of the page. The parcel is highlighted to indicate it is selected.
Additional parcels can be selected and their information is added to the right side panel.
The Excel button at the bottom will continue to accumulate all the information for all the parcels selected.
This tool works in conjuction with the Select Parcel(s) by Line and Polygon tools.
Use the Clear Selection and Graphics tool to start a new selection set.
SELECT PARCEL(S) BY LINE TOOL - Selects the parcel(s) along the click location(s) on the map that describe a straight or multipoint line.
Click once to start the line, move your mouse away from the 1st point and a red line should follow the mouse location on the map, click each subsequent point, double click to end the line.
The Pid, Owner & Property Address information are displayed on the right side of the page. The parcel(s) are highlighted to indicate they are selected.
Additional parcels can be selected and a their information is added to the right side panel.
The Excel button at the bottom will continue to accumulate all the information for all the parcels selected.
This tool works in conjuction with the Select Parcel(s) by Point and Polygon tools.

SELECT PARCEL(S) BY POLYGON TOOL - Selects the parcel(s)at the click location(s) on the map that describe a shape.
Click once to start the shape, move your mouse away from the 1st point and a red line should follow the mouse location on the map, click each subsequent point, double click to end the shape.
The Pid, Owner & Property Address information are displayed on the right side of the page. The parcel(s) are highlighted to indicate they are selected.
Additional parcels can be selected and a their information is added to the right side panel.

This tool works in conjuction with the Select Parcel(s) by Point and Line tools.
Use the Clear Selection and Graphics tool to start a new selection set.
IDENTIFY TOOL - Identifies features from the identify layer at the click location on the map.
Click in the circle to the left of the feature to identify.   An "I" will appear in the circle indicating the feature is identifiable.
Click on the map to identify the feature and a small information data box will appear on the map.   To close the information data box click the "x" in the upper right corner of the info data box.
SEARCH BUTTON - Displays the Search form.
The user can search for parcels by the Owner Name, Property Address or Parcel ID.
In addition, the user can also search for a geodetic survey monument by selecting it from a list of monuments.
By pressing the "Search" button the user is provided a list of results.   Only the first 1000 results are listed, however the Excel button will have ALL the results.
ADVANCED SEARCH BUTTON - Displays the Advanced Search form.
The user can search for parcels by Acreage, Appraised Value, Sale Date, Land Use, Deed Book & Page and Survey, etc.
for the entire county, selected township, selected city or subdivision group.
By pressing the "Search" button the user is provided a list of results.   Only the first 1000 results are listed, however the Excel button will have ALL the results.
BUFFER BUTTON - Displays the Buffer form.
If a parcel is selected, the user can specify a buffer distance and display a list of parcels that are within the buffer distance of the selected parcel.
If a parcel is not selected, then the parcels will be selected from the center of the current map screen.
Only the first 1000 results are listed, however the Excel button will have ALL the results.
SHOW RESULTS - Shows the results sidebar panel.
CLEAR SELECTION AND GRAPHICS - Clears the selection set from the selected parcels and clears all the map graphics.
MAP LAYERS BUTTON - Displays the Map Layers form.
The user can turn map layers on or off by clicking on the check box to the left of each layer.
In addition, the user can also specify the identify layer by clicking the blue circle with the "I" to the left of the layer.
The currently identifiable layer will be shown at the top of the Map Layer interface.
The identify layer will be used to identify features with the Identify tool.
Note that each layer is only visible within certain scale ranges, however the layer can still be indentified even if not seen.
If you don't see a layer drawn, trying changing your map view by zooming in or out.   The orthophotos are only visible if the map scale is between 2000 and 20.
MEASURE TOOL - Allows the user to enter a point on the map and get the location in NC State Plane Coordinates in feet and Latitude and Longitude in decimal degrees,
or draw a line or area on the map and displays the length of the line or perimeter and area of the area's shape in square feet and acres.
GENERATE MAP - Displays the Print Layout form.
The user can enter a title and select Landscape or Portrait for the layout and a printable version of the map is created.
